Butler dropped their season opener to New Castle by a final score of 20-14. Butler scored a late touchdown from Jake Thompson but failed on the onside kick. The Knoch Knights gave up 257 yards rushing to Russell Shell in a 47-6 loss at Knoch on Friday. Seneca Valley opened the season with a 17-7 loss to Norwin at Nextier Stadium on Friday. The Mars Planets defeated the Moon Tigers by a final of 24-7 on Friday night and finished with 257 yards rushing on 49 carries. Mars plays at Hopewell next Friday. Karns City overcame some youthful mistakes to pull off a 20-13 win over Punxsutawney Friday night. The Freeport Yellowjackets claimed a 37-21 conference victory on the road over the Kittanning Wildcats. Slippery Rock senior quarterback Ayron Gallagher rushed for 166 yards, but the Rockets lost 17-14 to Fort LeBoeuf on Friday night. Keystone defeated A-C Valley 47-8. Clarion defeated Moniteau 46-14 in a surprising defeat for the Warriors.
