Pens Defeat Wings In Shootout Print E-mail
Written by WISR News
Monday, 01 February 2010 06:05
In a rematch of the last two Stanley Cup finals, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings would battle to a 1-1 tie before Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin would score in the shootout and Marc-Andre Fleury would stop both shooters and the Pens would win by a final score of 2-1. The Penguins are 7-0 in shootouts mostly because Fleury is 5-0 after denying 14 of the 15 shooters he has faced and his goaltending partner Brent Johnson is a perfect 6 for 6 in shootouts.  Sidney Crosby scored the lone goal in the game for the Penguins during regulation.  The Penguins outshot the Red Wings by more than double during the game, holding a 45-21 total over the Wings, including 29-11 through the first two periods.  The Penguins improved their record to 34-21-1 and trail the Sabers by two points but and they have moved back to within three of New Jersey, which is first in the Atlantic Division.  The Pens take on the Sabers tonight at 7, the pre-game show starts at 6:45 on WISR 680AM.
