Six people accused in the torturing and murder of a mentally disabled woman in Westmoreland County last month appeared in court today.

Extra security is in place for the preliminary hearing at the courthouse in Greensburg.  According to our news exchange partners at WPXI-TV, the suspects were also segregated at the courthouse because they've received threats from other inmates.

30-year-old Jennifer Daughtery's body was found in a garbage can in the Greensburg-Salem Middle School parking lot on February 11th.  Charged with her slaying are Ricky Smyrnes, Peggy Miller, Amber Meidinger, Robert Masters, Melvin Knight, and a 17-year-old girl from Greensburg.

Part of the testimony included an audio tape of a graphic police interview with Knight, where he claimed that when Smyrnes told him she was still alive after Knight had stabbed her.  Knight said he stabbed her again and that Smyrnes told him afterwards they had to get rid of her body.

The six suspects are charged with homicide, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
