Area restaurants, wineries, bakeries and beverage vendors will provide sampling opportunities during The Taste Of Historic Zelienople and Harmony.

The event will be from six to nine on Monday March 22nd at the Kaufman House in Zelienople.

The United Way of Butler County is accepting nominations for the Red Apple Award.

The awards will be presented to educators in seven local school districts, at Butler County Vo-Tech, at Butler County Community College and Slippery Rock University.

The winners will be announced in May.

Nominating forms are available at the United Way office on Pittsburgh Road south of Butler or at butlerunitedway.org.

Rotary Club Helps Mental Health Center Print E-mail

The Rotary Club of Butler has given a thousand dollar gift to Irene Stacy Mental Health Center.

According to the center's Executive Director Roger Kelly, the money will be used for room partitions so that clients have more privacy.

The gift was made possible through donations from local businesses and citizens during the Rotary's annual golf outing.

The Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with Butler Township, will be hosting an Egg-o-Rama with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 3rd, the day before Easter.

The event will be held from 6 to 7:30pm at the Butler Township Park Building at 486 South Duffy Road, and the cost is $7 per child from age toddler through 10.  Tickets are limited and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.  Pre-registration is required.

BT Sells Leaf Bags for Spring Collection Print E-mail

Leaf bags will be available for sale to Butler Township residents, as spring leaf collections are coming up next month.

Butler Township will offer 30 gallon bio-degradable bags at a cost of 25 cents per bag on Saturday, March 27th at the Butler Township Municipal Building Parking Lot between the hours of 9am and Noon.  No more than 75 bags will be sold to any individual household.  The bags can also be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the muncipal building on South Duffy Road.

Leaves will be collected the weeks of April 4th and 25th.

There are three free, fun art classes for kids this Saturday at the AABC Art Center in Butler.

The classes include:
 
Foam fun, from noon to one

Paper dolls, from one to two

3D painting, from two to three

Trout Stocking Schedules Now Available Print E-mail

Trout stocking schedules are now available at State Representative Dick Stevenson's district office in preparation for opening day of trout season in April.
 
A total of 744 streams and 124 lakes will be stocked as a part of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's 2010 adult trout stocking program. Stocking occurs year-round, though most anglers typically view March as the official start of stocking season.
  
Opening day for trout season in western Pennsylvania is currently scheduled for Saturday, April 17th. 
 
Copies of the trout stocking schedules can be obtained from Stevenson's legislative offices at 234 West Pine Street, Grove City, or the Butler district office at 1771 North Main Street Extension, or by visiting Stevenson's Web site at www.DickStevenson.com.

The North Washington Volunteer Fire Department's fish and oyster dinner is Friday, starting at 4PM.

Adult meals and take-outs are ten dollars. Kids eat for five.

The fire department social hall is along Route 38 between Butler and Emlenton.

The Butler County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness offers a free family-to-family course to help those caring for a loved one with mental illness.

The classes will be Tuesday evenings from April 6th through May.

Butler High School is one of a dozen teams advancing to the statewide Mock Trial Championships, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

The competition will be the 26th and 27th in Harrisburg.

The team members are:

Steven Wuchina

The teacher coaches are David Cooper and John Lesjack. Michael Gallagher is attorney advisor.
