Butler County Community College's president is concerned over the proposed cut of federal Pell grants for college students.
Dr. Nick Neupauer said at yesterday's board of trustees meeting that approximately 2,000 BC3 students receive approximately $6 million in Pell grant money. Neupauer and Ray Steffler, chairman of BC3's Board of Trustees, were in Washington last week to speak with Congressman Jason Altmire and U.S. Senator Robert Casey, Jr. about the impact BC3 students would experience if those monies are cut.
On a brighter note, sales are up at the new campus bookstore at the Student Success Center. Student voucher program participation for the spring term was up 48 percent over last year, online book sales were up 22 percent, and food sales were up 86 percent. A pilot program for textbook rentals will begin this summer.
